Bridging the Digital Divide for Healthier Communities
"Technology is transforming healthcare but threatens to leave entire communities behind. As we climb to new heights, we need to reach a hand out to lift others up." Dr. G. Jakobsen

Research and Policy Development
We lead community-rooted research and policy analysis to uncover structural barriers to digital and health literacy. By combining clinical insight with social science and public health expertise, we translate findings into actionable, equity-driven recommendations. Our diverse team brings together voices from medicine, law, EMS, social work, and academia to develop practical solutions that reflect the real-world needs of underserved communities.

Community Empowerment
We collaborate with community members, clinicians, educators, and policymakers to co-create strategies that promote access, trust, and informed health decision-making. Our work is grounded in the belief that durable change requires multi-stakeholder involvement and shared ownership. By leveraging the strengths of our interdisciplinary team and listening to those closest to the challenges, we aim to advance health equity at both local and national levels.
To The Future, and Beyond!
Aspiring to Build a Collaborative Future Through Digital Literacy
The Digital Equity Initiative is a public health nonprofit advancing digital and health literacy through research and advocacy. Originating in the Bronx, our mission now encompasses diverse communities facing barriers to digital engagement and health equity. By uniting clinicians, EMTs, public health professionals, social workers, educators, and policy experts, we develop inclusive, evidence-based solutions that empower individuals and inform systemic change.
